There are also many places that provide support and assistance with the tasks of your student life. Here we tell you who can best answer your questions and give a general overview of where you can get help on campus.

Faculty of Engineering and their departments

The Faculty of Engineering has three departments:

 

and the cooperation with five Fraunhofer institutes along with the Hahn-Schickard institutes, we offer an ideal environment for research at the highest level.

Student Service Center

The University of Freiburg's service center offers a wide breadth of information for students, ranging from enrollment, to academic advising, to internship and career opportunities.

Studierendenwerk (Student Services Freiburg)

In addition to personal, psychological and legal counselling, the Studierendenwerk provides a wide range of information and support services surrounding financial aid, employment, student housing and more. The Studierendenwerk also organizes cultural events and recreational activities on campus, in the student residences, and in and around Freiburg.

For first-year or international students interested in getting to know more about Freiburg, a wealth of information about the city and the surrounding area is available on the Studierendenwerk website.

Student Council (Fachschaft)

All students are welcome to visit the Student Council (Fachschaft) of the Faculty of Engineering. This departmental committee is comprised of a group of students who are elected to represent student interests in a certain department.

At the beginning of each semester, the Fachschaft organises information events for new students. This is where you can find out how to plan your studies. It's also a good place to get to know other students. The Fachchaft can also provide you with initial orientation at the university.

Examination Office of the Faculty of Engineering (Prüfungsamt)

The responsibilities of the Faculty of Engineering are

  • Advice on examination regulations
  • Advice on appeals/organisation of the examination board
  • Organisation of examinations
  • Registration and deregistration procedures for examinations
  • Administration of applications on recognition of courses
  • Issuing forms (mainly electronic)
  • Issuing documents (transcripts, visa matters, ...)
  • Issuing of degree documents (by post or in person by arrangement)
  • Issuing documents for financing studies (BAföG, educational loans, etc.)

 

Important IT systems

Most information concerning the Sustainable Systems Engineering program can be found online. In the following, we describe the most important information systems.

MyAccount

The University of Freiburg provides all students with a UserID that gives access to all important IT services. You can manage your UniAccount on the platform myAccount on which you can administer your passwords and membership in several mailing lists. The UniAccount gives access to services such as your university email account, Campus Management, Wi-Fi, Freiburg’s University Library and the Online Literature Database ReDI as well as the e-learning platform ILIAS. User Account for students of the Faculty of Engineering

All students of the Faculty of Engineering (Technische Fakultät/TF) are required to apply for a user account of the Faculty of Engineering in addition to the University User Account. You will need the TF user account to receive important emails that are sent for example by the coordinator or by the examination office to the TF student mailing list. The TF user account also enables you to use the computer labs in building 082. Please ask the pool managers in building 082 (1st floor, opposite the entrance to the cafeteria) to set up a TF account for you.

You can use this form to query your user account and also make certain changes yourself (e.g. entries in public email aliases). If you have any questions or problems, please contact user support.

UniCard

A few days/weeks after matriculating, the university will send you a letter with your student ID card (called UniCard). You can find out which features the card has on the UniCard website.

Campus Management HISinOne

Here you will find:

  • Course catalog and registration for courses for all students

 --> Instructions on searching/displaying for courses in HISinOne

  • Registration for examinations and retrieval of transcripts 
  • Student administration for all students

--> Instructions on semester registration/matriculation certificates/address change in HISinOne

Ilias - University's e-learning platform

ILIAS is the central online learning platform of the University of Freiburg which you can use with your student login. This platform offers you most importantly central access to courses and course material, independent of time and place. Normally, the content available online is password-protected. Your professors will provide you with the respective passwords in their classes each semester.

IT support

The central IT user support is your first point of contact for questions and problems related to the university's centralized IT services and applications.

 

Libraries

The UniCard is also your library card. Nevertheless, you have to register yourself before using the library for the first time. You can either register online or ask the librarian of the Faculty of Engineering to set up an account for you.

Advising and Counselling

All central university offerings and consultation services are available to SSE students. The Student Service Center website provides an abundance of information for beginning and advanced students alike.

  • Central Academic Advising
  • The Studierendenwerk Freiburg offers psychological counselling, social counselling, legal advice, medical advice, advice on insurances and financial matters, studying with children, studying with disabilities and more.
  • The Intercultural Mentoring offers an exchange between experienced students from all university departments (mentors) with international students at the beginning of their studies (mentees).
  • The Nightline – emotional listening support by students for students, can be reached every evening from 8 p.m. to midnight at 0761 203 9375.
