ASSUME - Agent-based electricity market simulation to study market designs for the future power system

Project description

In this project, a simulation toolbox for investigating market designs in the energy system is developed. In this toolbox, learning agents simulate the behavior of participants in interconnected markets in the energy system. The strategic behavior of the market participants in recurrent trading is modeled as realistically as possible, considering technical restrictions of the generation or consumption plants or storage facilities. The strategies of the participants resulting from the interaction of the learning agents and the emergent market result allow conclusions to be drawn about the influencing factors that determine a suitable market design. From these findings, conclusions can be drawn with respect to the optimal further development of electricity markets. The model focus is on the German electricity market, but the European interconnectedness to the other European electricity markets is also taken into account. Special attention in the development of the model components will be paid to reuse and recyclability as well as interoperability with existing models of power system analysis. The involved project partners will contribute implementations from existing models and design a new model architecture on this basis, taking into account other existing models within the framework of the project. Interfaces will be created through which open source existing models can be linked, so that on the one hand models can be reused and on the other hand other research groups can link the newly created agent-based simulation as a module with their models.
